Nire Valley Cottage - General
Our cottage is of historical interest due to its heritage, provenance, typical Irish character and for its secluded location in the Nire valley near to the Comeragh Mountains. It is estimated to be between 150-175 years old and is a listed building (monument). For years the cottage has been used as a small shop/house selling commodities of all kinds and it was of great importance to the people in the area. Due to the shop and its central location it also served as a social meeting place. The field in front of the cottage was used for many a sport. All in all a place where "the crac" was good! . Originally the cottage consisted of the thatched building as shop/living quarters with the adjacent stable and shed. In the 1980s the cottage was rebuilt to the present lay-out i.e. the stable was joined to the cottage and made into one single dwelling. The cottage is situated on 2 acres of private grounds. It features private parking for up to two cars. Behind the cottage are stables which are used by the caretaker for his thoroughbred horses. The stables belong to the cottage owner. For fishing in the river in front of the cottage a license is required. The availability of a car or any other kind of transportation is a must.

Nire Valley Cottage - Around the Cottage
Situated in the south eastern part of Ireland the Comeragh Mountain and Nire Valley embrace the scenery and splendour of the mountains which form the spine of County Waterford. The village of Ballymacarbry , 3 miles from the cottage, enjoys a beautiful setting and is the centre for people looking for action in the Comeragh Mountains and the Nire Valley. The Nire Valley has the terrain to suit every grade of walker from the experienced mountaineer to the complete beginner. There are various scenic walks in the surrounding area, many are dircetly from the cottage.

Nire Valley Cottage - Around the Area
The nearest town is Clonmel, a thriving little town offering good shopping, some interesting sights and good food. The thriving seaside market town of Dungarvan is about 30 minutes away. Once in Dungarvan all kinds of seaside activities are within easy reach. Cahir was a key strategic location during the 13th century. The Normans built a huge castle to defend their interests and this is of course the focal point of the town’s offering, together with the remarkable Swiss Cottage which is absolutely lovely. Cashel plays host to one of Irelands best preserved ecclesiastical remains – the Rock of Cashel is dominant but the town itself plays an important part in understanding how the church operated and where and how the services it required in order to function were supplied. Lismore Castle has been the Irish home of the Dukes of Devonshire since 1753 and is possibly the most spectacular castle in Ireland. Situated in a panoramic position overlooking the Blackwater Valley it has views over rolling, wooded hills to the Knockmealdown Mountains beyond. Whilst being totally private, the Castle is on the outskirts of the Heritage Town of Lismore and a mere 200 yard walk to all its amenities. Waterford, Cork and Kilkenny are within roughly an hours drive. All this gives the visitor ample historical and leisure possibilities to guarantee a perfect holiday!
