THE LOCAL AREA
Falmouth’s natural harbour is the third deepest in the world and provides a picturesque background to the resort, a focal point for many water sports and the National Maritime Museum. Many of the harbour side shops, cafes and restaurants have unsurpassed views across the water to Flushing , Falmouth Bay and beyond. Falmouth’s main street has a charming mix of shops for gifts, clothes and antiques just head down the road and swing a right into town. RESTAURANTS AND CAFES (OUR CURRENT FAVOURITES) Falmouth has a wide selection of world cuisine many serving the very best in local seafood and produce. Our current favourites are : DA VINCI An authentic Italian just down the road …consistently great food and real value, good option for kids too. 35 high street 01326 312277 HARVEY’S WHARF A wonderful fusion of chic and style. The food is prepared in the open kitchen by a wonderful team of Chef`s all being specialists in their own fields. (Amazing steaks!) This together with the wonderful location on the Marina side means its just a perfect place to sit and enjoy all Harvey`s has to offer. Discovery Quay just down the road at the other end of town 01326 314351 PEA SOUK Falmouth’s only fully Vegetarian café, specialising in middle eastern mezze - there’s no other café like it! 19 Well Lane, Church Street 01736 317583 THE STICKY PRAWN Remy Martin Restaurant of the Year 2007 (SW Region) and The Independent Newspaper Top Ten Fish Restaurant of the Year. Situated in an idyllic waterside location on Flushing Quay, (drive or catch the ferry ),offering an abundance of fresh locally caught fish and shell fish together with meat and poultry from Cornish Suppliers. 01326 373734 BEACHES GYLINGVASE Cliff Road, This is the main town beach and a beautiful, long sandy stretch. Calm waters most of the time, excellent facilities for kids and a very cool café. CASTLE BEACH also on Cliff Road, this smaller beach is not as busy, has excellent rock pools and a good but basic café. Walking or driving along the coast (beautiful walk) from the above beaches will lead you to SWANPOOL and MAENPORTH beaches. These are both lovely sandy with cafes and stunning views over to the headlands. Swanpool also has a nature reserve with a lake for boats and swans. Surfing: Falmouth beaches are ideal for beginners to intermediates. Head here when strong south-westerlies and double-overhead waves are battering the north coast.

More renowned for its sailing than surfing, good waves can be had at Swanpool and Maenporth beaches, although crowds can be a problem.

Good waves can be had up to 4-5 feet, any bigger and they tend to close out. Paddle out from the beach in front of the line-up. For the more adventurous, Gyllyngvase Reef situated off the main beach can produce fast, yet short righthanders from mid tide onwards.

Popular with both surfers and boogieboarders. The take-off is the best part of the wave, you’ll need to be quick, tuck in and head for the shoulder!
